The Jamla movement, out of NC has been on fire for a minute now. The other entries from the Jamla camp have come forward and stamped it. GQ takes the forefront and does not dissapoint.

Rapsody is a new female mc out of North Carolina. When I say new, I mean she is new to us! She is definitely not new to the rap game. Backed with beats from the Grammy winning producer 9th Wonder, on his label, Jamla Records.

I was introduced to Rapsody via her combo with Wu Vet, Raekwon on a track called Black Diamonds (AVAILABLE ON THIS MIXTAPE) . FIRE! I immediately started looking up this female mc that could hold her own on a track with a hard hitter like Rae.

As of this post, Rapsody has two mixtapes under her belt with numerous appearances on her label mates mixtapes.

Rapsody's latest mixtape, Thank H.E.R. Now , includes other artists, as well as Raekwon. One could infer that her title is an homage to the track by Common "I Used To Love H.E.R." an tribute to Hip Hop, and its influence over his life.

Even on her first release, Return of the B-Girl, you get a feel that this young lady is in the new Renaissance of Hip Hop. Her style and choices of tracks, are definitely a return to the old (not that old really) days of Hip Hop. Back to a time when lyrics were just as important as the track. No catchy chorus to sell singles here, this is straight, in your mind lyrical content, that will give you something to listen to. If you are looking for the next bubblegum hip hop mcee for the masses…keep it moving. This rapper is for true Hip Hop fans who like rappers who rap. No flipping birds, just words.
